The fall meeting of Tech Data Corp.’s elite TechSelect partner community, which took place last week in Orlando, proved an ideal opportunity for ChannelPro to quiz senior leaders on what resellers can expect from the Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor in the months ahead. Here are six insights gleaned from those discussions.

As ChannelPro reported in April, Tech Data is waging an ongoing campaign to reduce overhead by taking more orders from resellers electronically. Look for the company to double down on that effort next year.
“2017 will be [about] how do we digitize the business even more,” says director of e-business David Spindler. “We want our salespeople to focus on helping our resellers grow their business versus taking a call.”
To that end, the distributor will soon begin executing a variety of measures aimed at encouraging partners to make purchases online rather than over the phone. According to Spindler, those could include waiving handling fees, providing free shipping on large orders, and offering special online discounts.
“You can pick up the phone too, but you might not get that web price,” he says.
