Despite many who have incorrectly predicted their demise, rack-mount servers will stick around for as long as servers as a hardware category exist. Why? Blade and micro systems have some advantages in certain areas, but the traditional rack offers the sheer flexibility to customize every aspect of a hardware-based solution over time. Racks are product, vendor, and application neutral, and can grow with a customer. Start with a 1U server from company X, networking from company Y, power management from company Z, etc. The choice in hardware is endless.
