Acronis plans to ship its first-ever EDR solution this week.
Previewed during the vendor’s partner conference last November, the new offering is designed to simplify threat diagnosis and mitigation for overworked MSPs with limited security expertise, according to Candid Wuest, the vendor’s vice president of cyber protection research.
“They don’t have the people to go through all the alerts and everything,” he says, adding that the new Acronis system classifies alerts automatically and explains them in plain English.
“It’ll tell you, ‘hey, an attacker came in through an email, he stole this and this information, and sent it to that domain,’” he says.
Technicians can then remediate the issue with a single click, Wuest adds. “It will stop all the required processes, isolate machines if necessary, and restore files that have been tampered with from the backup.”
The ability to restore specific, individual files after an attack differentiates Acronis EDR from similar solutions, according to Wuest. “Usually, at least to my knowledge, they just restore the whole machine,” he says.
The new EDR solution is part of Acronis’s Advanced Security + EDR pack. Under a licensing scheme first introduced in 2021, users of the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud platform receive an extensive set of core features free of charge and can then layer on more sophisticated functionality by purchasing advance protection packs.
