Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World
By General Stanley McChrystal, with Tantum Collins, David Silverman, and Chris Fussell (Portfolio, 2015)
U.S. General Stanley McChrystal transformed the Joint Special Operations Task Force charged with beating Al Qaeda in Iraq in 2004 into a “team of teams”—removing silos, improving communication, adapting to change, boosting agility, and empowering individuals. The subtitle, “New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World,” is apt. Bob Coppage, founder and CEO of Simplex-IT, a managed services provider in Stow, Ohio, says it’s a lesson in adapting to change. “He had such an insight into the dynamics of change and how optimization is not as exciting and desirable as it used to be because of the improvisation that’s going on throughout the world,” he says.
