This tiny device may not seem as essential as the others on our list—until your smartphone runs out juice, anyway. A key fob is a tiny device with built-in access to your security system. No web connection is needed. Instead, it has limited access built into a something that can double as a keychain. It’s also a nice backup plan or even an easy way to give someone limited access to your home security system. Key fobs are also very easy to store in the glove compartment or in a kitchen drawer. The one pictured is Vivint’s key fob, which allows users to arm and disarm the security system, as well as call the monitoring station, all without having to enter the home.
