Go figure. IDC expects sales of personal computing devices (including desktops, notebooks, workstations, and tablets) to drop 3.9 percent this year. Yet D&H is generating big numbers in the PC market, or at least specific segments of it. Premium notebook revenue, for example, climbed an impressive 31 percent year over year, and sales of mobile workstations to engineers, architects, and other professionals with serious processing needs rose an even more eye-catching 41 percent.
“So many of these professionals are now mobile,” DiMarco observes. “They don’t live in a hard-wired office. They live somewhere else, either at a client’s location or in another country, or they’re a contractor. All of that means that they need a powerful computing experience.”
