If you visit ChannelPro’s website regularly (and you do visit ChannelPro’s website regularly, don’t you?), you’re probably aware that Barracuda Networks Inc. acquired security awareness training vendor PhishLine LLC in January and introduced an anti-phishing solution for midsize businesses based on PhishLine technology some five months later.
What you probably don’t know is that the Campbell, Calif.-based vendor’s Barracuda MSP unit, which makes backup and security products for managed service providers, introduced an edition of the PhishLine product for MSPs as well last month.
That’s because Barracuda MSP has decided to soft-pedal its product launches going forward to avoid confusing Barracuda partners. “It’s weird to announce a product twice,” observes Neal Bradbury, senior director of business development at Barracuda MSP.
Like the original version of the PhishLine product, the MSP release sends simulated phishing attacks to end users and provides follow-up instruction to people who take the system’s phony bait. Unlike the earlier edition, however, the Barracuda MSP version features subscription-based pricing and a completely outsourced delivery model.
“You literally call us, you sign up, you pay per user, [and] we send out the emails,” Bradbury says. The result for MSPs is a shorter, easier path into the security training market that doesn’t require technicians to take time away from resolving tickets and strategizing with customers.
