The Internet of Things is the No. 1 opportunity for the channel in terms of both near-term revenue and long-term profit, according to Jay McBain, principal analyst for global channels at Forrester Research. The IoT “is more than just little pieces of plastic,” he says. “It is the physical devices. We’ve got vehicles and buildings. We’ve got embedded electronic software sensors, actuators, network connectivity. It’s all kinds of different devices, generating all kinds of data and, in the end, providing business value.”
