Wyse Introduces Next-Generation Mobile Thin Client

With dual-core processing, dual-band Wi-Fi, and USB 3.0, the Wyse X Class mobile thin client delivers high-performance, anywhere access to virtual desktops for extended mobile cloud computing.

Wyse Technology, a provider of cloud client computing solutions in San Jose, Calif., has introduced its next-generation, high-performance, 14-inch mobile thin client with HD multimedia capabilities. The Wyse X90m7, says the company, provides businesses with higher security and reliability, in a mobile offering.

“Each and every year, thousands and thousands of laptops are stolen or misplaced,” says Bob O’Donnell, program vice president, clients and displays, IDC. “For security reasons alone, delivering the benefits of cloud computing to the mobile worker is extraordinary. Combined with the benefits of high performance and energy-efficiency, this new class of mobile thin clients has great promise.”

The Wyse X90m7 is available with a dual core AMD G-T56N 1.6 GHz processor with AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics. At the heart of the Wyse X90m7 is a new engine, and all major system elements—CPU cores, vector engines, and a unified video decoder for HD decoding tasks—live on the same piece of silicon. This design concept eliminates one of the fundamental constraints that limit performance.

The Wyse X90m7 also includes SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity, enabling connection to the newest peripherals and speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, according to Wyse. The device is based on the Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating system, and models based on Windows Embedded Standard 2009 and SUSE Linux Enterprise are planned.

The Wyse X90m7 is verified Citrix-ready for Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop. In addition, the device is optimized and tested for Microsoft Terminal Server and VDI Suites, and VMware View environments. It is also optimized the new version of Wyse Device Manager, a management tool for cloud clients.
