Untangle and Webroot Announce New Integrations

Users of Untangle’s NG Firewall can now perform endpoint scans, view information about previous scans, and navigate to the Webroot Management Console from directly inside the Untangle Command Center administration tool (pictured).

In the latest extension of an evolving alliance, Untangle has announced enhanced integrations between its NG Firewall portfolio and Webroot‘s security software.

The new cross-vendor connections, which are available to Untangle customers free of charge, allow users of the Untangle Command Center administration tool to scan devices with Webroot Business Endpoint Protection; view the status of earlier Webroot endpoint scans, including time, threats discovered, and remediation actions performed; and navigate directly to the Webroot Management Console for further action.

“We’re excited to extend our relationship with Untangle,” said Hal Lonas, senior vice president and CTO for SMB and Consumer at OpenText, in prepared remarks. “We’re always looking for ways to reduce the complexity of security solutions for the end user. By bringing Webroot’s threat intelligence-powered endpoint protection and Untangle’s network protection into a centralized command center, we can offer a seamless, single pane of glass experience to both sets of customers and ultimately help improve their cyber resilience.”

OpenText acquired Carbonite last November, some nine months after Carbonite bought Webroot

Today’s announcement comes less than two months after Untangle introduced a Threat Prevention App that uses real-time packet inspections informed by Webroot’s BrightCloud IP Reputation Index to block access to dangerous IP addresses.

“Untangle has been progressively partnering more with Webroot over the last year, which has helped us defend our mutual customers against cyberattacks from many angles,” said Scott Devens, Untangle’s CEO, in a media statement. “Now, with this API integration, we’re providing a seamless integration for our customers with one of their preferred Endpoint Security solutions. This integration makes it easier than ever to monitor, manage and take necessary actions across their network.”

In February, during the RSA Conference in San Francisco, Untangle revealed plans to ship new editions of the three core products in its Network Security Framework—NG Firewall, the SD-WAN Router, and Command Center—this summer. All will feature WireGuard VPN, a protocol the vendor contends is superior to the better known OpenVPN and IPsec standards.

The new Command Center release will also include functionality administrators can use to implement an entire network of firewalls and routers across a headquarters site and multiple branch offices at once.
