Trend Micro Ships SMB-Focused Detection and Response Solution

Called Worry-Free XDR, the system extends detection and response capabilities beyond the endpoint to email, and is available in a co-managed edition for MSPs who need outsourced alert monitoring, incident response, and remediation help.

Trend Micro has introduced a new edition of its XDR managed detection and response solution for SMBs and MSPs who serve them.

Called Worry-Free XDR, the system aims to help smaller organizations extend detection and response capabilities beyond the endpoint to email as well through a single agent. The system correlates threats across both vectors, and includes cloud sandboxing functionality for suspicious messages and attachments.

A second edition of the product, named Worry-Free with Co-Managed XDR, allows MSPs to receive alert monitoring, incident response assistance, and personalized remediation advice on a 24/7 basis from a team of Trend Micro security experts. The service also offers cross-customer analysis that MSPs can use to spot attacks on one client that have the potential to impact others.

The original version of XDR debuted last year. Both new editions of the solution are designed to simplify security for small businesses at a time when the escalated dangers pf work-from-home computing have made protecting end users harder than ever. Some 85% of organizations say that threat detection and response has gotten tougher due to a lack of skilled security professionals and increasing attack volumes, according to research from analyst firm ESG.

“Our partners are the first line of support for SMBs that are struggling to manage the uptick in cyber-attacks with stretched IT teams and little confidence in the fidelity of alerts coming in from existing tools,” said Louise McEvoy, vice president of U.S. channel for Trend Micro, in a press statement. “We are proud to be able to enable our partners with the broadest protection against ransomware and advanced attacks. We realize that small businesses are at risk and we’re helping them protect themselves from cyber threats early on to minimize any damage and preserve precious in-house resources.”

Trend Micro’s annual midyear security report, which the company published two weeks ago, documented the escalated risks businesses face during the coronavirus pandemic.

In just the first half of 2020, Trend Micro says, its software blocked 27.8 billion threats, 93% of which were email-based. Among those attacks were 8.8 million specifically tied to COVID-19, illustrating the degree to which cybercriminals are exploiting this year’s fear and disruption to victimize vulnerable home-based workers.
