SolarWinds MSP Adds Mac Support to Take Control Remote Access Tool

Users of the managed service software vendor’s cloud-based RMM platform can now offer remote assistance to Mac users just as they do to users of Windows PCs.

SolarWinds MSP has added support for Apple Mac devices to the MSP Anywhere version of Take Control, the remote access component of its MSP Remote Monitoring & Management (MSP RMM) solution.

The update means that users of the Durham, N.C.-based managed services software vendor’s software-as-a-service RMM solution, which was known before October as LOGICnow MAX RM, can now offer remote assistance to Mac users just as they do to users of Windows PCs.

“This is a significant milestone for Mac support at SolarWinds MSP and is arguably the most important one,” said Brian Best, SolarWinds MSP’s Apple strategist, in a press statement. “This update empowers MSPs who support the Mac platform and is a great opportunity for them to grow their business. It also opens the door for everything we want to bring to the market for Mac support in 2017, and beyond.”

Take Control comes in two editions. One is based on TeamViewer, a remote access system from U.K.-based Permira Holdings Ltd. The other is powered by MSP Anywhere, a remote access solution from SolarWinds MSP’s N-central product unit. That latter version has been available since last month. MSP RMM users are free to use whichever Take Control version they prefer.

The MSP Anywhere edition of Take Control lets MSPs connect remotely to end points, conduct live chat sessions with customers, transfer sessions to other technicians, ask questions in group chats, and perform background file transfers background without disturbing customers.

Parent company SolarWinds Worldwide LLC, of Austin, Texas, created SolarWinds MSP in June, when it purchased managed services tool provider LOGICnow and combined it with its N-central division.

Integrating the LOGICnow and N-central product lines is a key element of the technology roadmap that company officials shared with attendees at SolarWinds MSP’s MAX 2016 partner event in November. For example, the next edition of the on-premises MSP N-central RMM solution will integrate with the former LOGICnow’s BDR system, now called MSP Backup & Recovery, and a new release of MSP RMM due in the first quarter of this year will integrate more closely with MSP Manager, the PSA system that N-able introduced last January.

Best joined SolarWinds MSP via LOGICnow when it acquired Mac management solution vendor Mac-MSP LLC a year ago as part of a push to become the RMM industry’s top provider of Mac support capabilities. LOGICnow added an Apple OS X agent to its RMM platform in April and equipped its Risk Intelligence security assessment tool to analyze Macs in August.
