Quest Expands Support for Modern Heterogeneous Database Environment with New SharePlex Release

Quest Software, a global systems management and security software provider, announced general availability of†SharePlex v9, the latest release of the company’s award-winning replication and real-time data integration solution. The new release enhances Quest’s support for organizations’ increasingly heterogeneous database environments by expanding platform coverage on both the source and target side. With version 9, Quest is further evolving SharePlex beyond its traditional Oracle roots with support for Microsoft SQL Server as a replication source so customers can now leverage a single solution to replicate data from both Oracle and SQL Server to an ever-increasing number of target databases both on-premises and in the cloud. New target databases available to users of SharePlex v9 include popular cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and AuroraDB.

Supporting Customers’ Evolving Database Ecosystem

With the rising popularity of modern relational databases such as MySQL and Postgres, and cloud database platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and AuroraDB, an increasing number of organizations are implementing hybrid database environments. In fact, a recent Quest customer survey revealed that going forward, database administrators (DBAs) increasingly anticipate having to manage heterogeneous, hybrid database environments to power their organizations’ business critical applications. Against this backdrop, traditional approaches to database replication that limit flexibility and propagate vendor lock-in no longer address the challenges modern organizations face. Already known for its vendor-agnostic approach, Quest is addressing this customer concern with the release of SharePlex v9 by adding support for Microsoft SQL Server as a replication source, while expanding its ever-growing list of popular replication targets.

“At Electronic Payment Exchange (EPX), we need to make sure all our database systems are up and running 24X7, 365 days a year so our customers’ electronic fund transfers are not only processed but processed securely,” said Patrick Smith, Lead Database Administrator at EPX, a wholly owned subsidiary of North American Bancard. “We needed to migrate certain applications and chose SharePlex as it addressed a business critical requirement – the need for a completely reliable, trouble-free, high-speed replication solution at an affordable cost of ownership. Previously, we used Oracle Golden Gate but it didn’t allow us to efficiently and quickly verify the accuracy of replication. SharePlex allows us to move the replicated platforms, in our case Oracle and PostgreSQL, securely within a tight SLA, verifiably – with confidence.”

With SharePlex, DBA’s can easily set up and synchronize data from primary databases to destination databases with near-zero impact to business critical applications. The newest release of SharePlex features:

  • Support for Microsoft SQL Server as a replication source.
  • Expanded target replication support, including popular cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, and AuroraDB.
  • Future ready capabilities with IPv4/IPv6 dual compatibility support as organizations harness IoT.

“We’ve seen a huge increase in the number of customers looking to replicate data into AWS and Microsoft Azure databases for a variety of new applications, including analytics,” said Greg Davoll, Executive Director, Product Management and Marketing for Quest database management solutions. “The biggest challenge for these customers is getting data out of their on-premises databases in a high performing, consistent, and reliable fashion and that’s where SharePlex really shines.”

Pricing and Availability

SharePlex v9 is available now. Pricing for the new Microsoft SQL Server source capture will start at $2,500 per database server. For more information go†here.
