NVIDIA Introduces SHIELD Android TV Console

Priced at $199, the living room entertainment device comes with an NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor, Android TV operating system, and GRID game-streaming service.

NVIDIA has introduced its first living room entertainment device under the SHIELD brand – the SHIELD Android TV Console. The device offers one teraflop of computing power, support for 4K television, and access to Android TV apps and entertainment. The console includes the company’s latest Tegra X1 processor with 256-core Maxwell architecture GPU and 64-bit CPU, and GRID game-streaming service, providing an on-demand “Netflix for games” experience up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second.

“SHIELD will change the way we enjoy digital entertainment at home,” says Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. “It’s an incredibly powerful, efficient, and advanced living room entertainment device. It’s the best Android TV experience. And it can transform into a serious gaming machine. It’s made to game.”

SHIELD comes bundled with NVIDIA’s WiFi direct controller. Optional accessories include additional controllers, a remote control, and a stand. The TV console will be available in May 2015, starting at $199.
