Nerdio Adds Approvals and Automation to Manager for MSP

The new features are designed to help channel pros who support Microsoft Azure environments streamline administrative processes and tighten role-based controls.

Nerdio has added automation and oversight features to Nerdio Manager for MSP, its multi-tenant management solution for the Microsoft cloud.

Updates officially rolled out today include new workflow functionality that lets MSPs make technicians get approval from specified decision-makers before executing selected tasks. The feature, which automatically sends in-app and email notifications to authorized approvers, is designed to reduce human error and ensure that actions with significant implications for an end customer’s costs like adding a server or resizing a virtual machine get advance confirmation.

Nerdio users can also now supplement built-in account controls for help desk technicians, IT administrators, billing administrators, and others with customized role-based controls, both at the company-wide level and for specific customers.

New additions to Nerdio’s library of Scripted Actions introduced today let users install and uninstall software from ConnectWise, Huntress, Kaseya, NinjaOne, and SentinelOne on Azure Virtual Desktop host pools. Introduced early in 2021, Scripted Actions are pre-written PowerShell scripts designed to automate otherwise manual Azure-related administrative processes.

Finally, users can use new analytic capabilities to select optimal reserved instances and Azure Hybrid Benefits for their customers, and receive in-app and emailed alerts when reservations are up for renewal or out of sync with virtual machines.

“These recently introduced product features help MSPs service more customers while reducing overall risk and human error at a time when staffing and talent retention are difficult,” said Amol Dalvi, vice president of product at Nerdio, in a press statement. “For example, with Approvals Workflow a technician or engineer who may not have sufficient training or experience to manage and deploy Azure can now do so and learn how to optimally manage an environment in a secure and controlled manner.”

Nerdio Manager for MSP is designed to help managed service providers implement and administer Azure, Microsoft 365, and Windows 365 environments. The system has included physical device administration services, via integration with Microsoft Endpoint Manager, as well since February.

Dominated until now by companies like Augmentt, JumpCloud, and SkyKick in addition to Nerdio, the cloud management market has begun attracting major managed service software makers as well. N-able, for example, introduced a tool for administering and securing Microsoft 365 accounts, users, and licenses last month. The next release of Kaseya’s VSA remote monitoring and management solution, due before the end of the year, will include support for native cloud applications as well.
