ManageEngine Adds Backup and Recovery Capabilities to ADManager Plus

Safeguard Against Accidental and Undesired Changes in Active Directory

ManageEngine, the IT management division of Zoho Corporation, announced that ADManager Plus, its Active Directory (AD) management and reporting solution, can now back up and recover all AD objects, including users, OUs, GPOs, groups and their members. Apart from creating, modifying and deprovisioning objects in AD, administrators can now back up objects belonging to multiple domains and recover deleted objects, all from a single console.

Not having a backup and recovery solution can damage or even break businesses trying to recover from malicious threats or honest mistakes. Depending on the nature of the business, downtime caused by ransomware, vengeful employees or other threats can cost an estimated $100,000 to $3.5 million per hour, according to a†Forrester Market Study. Likewise, manually finding and fixing accidentally deleted user accounts, erroneously modified user privileges and other IT team mistakes can be time-consuming and error-prone.

“Organizations are looking for IT management solutions that will not only help them achieve their business objectives, but will also minimize downtime, reduce costs and eliminate the need to use multiple solutions to meet their needs,” said Manikandan Thangaraj, director of program management at ManageEngine. “With the addition of backup and recovery capabilities, ADManager Plus can both manage user identities and safeguard data from disaster.”

Highlights of ADManager Plus

AD is a critical service that helps manage users’ identities and access rights, meaning unwanted changes in AD could bring the organization to a screeching halt. With ADManager Plus’ backup and recovery component, administrators can back up all changes in AD, however big or small. In the event of a failure, AD can be easily restored to its original state without restarting the domain controllers.

Using ADManager Plus, administrators are able to:

  • Create full and incremental backups of AD objects, including users, computers, contacts, groups, OUs, GPOs, and dynamic distribution groups.
  • Retain a specified number of full backups and corresponding incremental backups to avoid wasting storage space.
  • Restore any AD object down to the attribute level.
  • Restore deleted groups and their members with attribute values intact.
  • Restore deleted OUs and GPOs in a single click.
  • Delegate backup and recovery tasks to help desk technicians.

Pricing and Availability

ADManager Plus now offers backup and recovery capabilities as part of the Active Directory Backup and Recovery add-on. The add-on is accessible from the Backup tab in the ADManager Plus console. The add-on supports unlimited AD objects, with licenses based on the number of user objects. Prices start at $145 for 250 user objects.
