Malwarebytes Introduces Endpoint Protection and EDR Solutions for Servers

Equipped with lightweight agents and backed by optional premium support services, the new products aim to extend protections already available for PCs, laptops, and mobile devices to another critical set of IT assets.

Malwarebytes has rolled out two security products specifically for use with servers.

Called Endpoint Protection (EP) for Servers and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) for Servers, both offerings are available now. They augment similar, previously released products designed to safeguard laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, as well as the vendor’s VPN offering, incident response solution, and malware removal service.

“Most organizations don’t have a dedicated security team, and rely on generalists for protection, putting them at a higher risk for cyberattacks. Server attacks can be especially damaging, hitting them hardest where they can least afford it: their data,” said Akshay Bhargava, chief product officer at Malwarebytes, in a press statement. “By extending our multi-layered security products to servers, we ensure effective cyberthreat detection and response to mitigate risk to more endpoints through our endpoint isolation, suspicious activity detection, and ransomware rollback features.”

According to Bhargava, both new products feature lightweight agents that enable faster scanning, detection, prevention, and removal of malware with reduced impact on the performance of server applications and processes.

Endpoint Protection for Servers, the company says, draws on machine learning technology to deliver accurate verdicts on potential threats, with fewer false positives. Endpoint Detection and Response for Servers, meanwhile, offers three ways to isolate attacks: network isolation, process isolation, and server isolation. The system activates file backups automatically when it detects ransomware, and lets organizations rollback affected files to their pre-encrypted state for up to 72 hours.

Users can manage both systems through Malwarebytes Nebula, the vendor’s cloud-based administration console, and bundle premium support services with them. While Endpoint Protection for Servers protects Windows and Linux servers, Endpoint Detection and Response for Servers supports Windows servers only at present.

According to Bhargava, adding server protection to existing endpoint security services allows channel pros to collect added revenue while safeguarding clients from a wider gamut of potential threats.

“Channel partners will be able to strengthen their cybersecurity solutions offerings when they incorporate Malwarebytes EDR and EP to provide more complete, comprehensive solutions to their clients,” he says.

Malwarebytes introduced its first VPN product, called Malwarebytes Privacy, last week. It unveiled a new partner program designed to offer requirements and benefits tailored to the different needs of MSPs, resellers, and computer repair shops in February.
