Kensington Fortifies Device and Data Security – Launches Laptop Locking Station 2.0 and VeriMark Fingerprint Key at ShowStoppers @ CES 2017

Versatile Laptop Locking Station 2.0 Offers Strong Anti-Theft Protection for Thin Laptops without a Security Slot, While VeriMark Key Delivers Windows Hello Biometric Login

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — KensingtonÆ, a worldwide leader of desktop computing and mobility solutions for IT, business and home office professionals and The Professionals’ Choice, today announced the launch of its Laptop Locking Station 2.0, a powerful locking solution for thin laptops such as the MacBook and MacBook Air, and the VeriMark Fingerprint Key, the world’s first fingerprint security key to support Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) universal 2nd-factor authentication (U2F), as well as Windows Hello biometric login. Kensington will display both new security products at ShowStoppers @ CES 2017, January 5, at table D-15 in the Lafite Ballroom, Wynn Hotel, Las Vegas.

Kensington Laptop Locking Station 2.0 — (SKU# K64453)
As computer technology continues to evolve, thin laptops have become more difficult to secure due to their sleek platforms that don’t allow for traditional security slots to engage a cable lock. The Kensington Laptop Locking Station 2.0 addresses this challenge – delivering optimal security and functionality in a low-profile solution ideal for the desktop environment. Adjustable security arms are located on each side of the locking station to accommodate thin laptops ranging from 11″ to 15.6″ in screen size. For initial installation, the user simply opens the laptop, then slides it between the arms into the station. Once the user adjusts the arms to the width of the device, they remove the laptop, and fix the arms into place for future use with that laptop. The laptop can then be placed quickly and easily into the locking station and locked into place using the included MicroSaverÆ 2.0 Keyed Lock that inserts into the industry-standard Kensington Security Slot located on the side of the locking station.

“Office computer theft ranks nearly as high as theft from cars, and exceeds that of airports, hotels and restaurants. And we all know, a stolen laptop is not only expensive to replace, but can lead to a data breach that exposes private/confidential data – leaving a company vulnerable to litigation, compliance violations and damage to the company’s reputation,” said Rob Humphrey, Director of Global Product Management, Security, Kensington. “The Kensington Laptop Locking Station 2.0 completely alleviates these concerns, with a sleek design that complements today’s laptop aesthetics.”

Kensington VeriMark Fingerprint Key — (SKU# K67977)
Innovation, quality and trust have made Kensington the standard in device security for more than 25 years. Kensington is now expanding that expertise to data security by introducing the world’s first fingerprint security key to support both Windows Hello and Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) universal 2nd-factor authentication (U2F) – the VeriMark Fingerprint Key. Engineered to provide simple, best-in-class biometric authentication, the VeriMark Fingerprint Key protects against unauthorized access on compromised devices while offering best-in-class cyber security for today’s cloud-based world.

“The numbers speak for themselves: global cyber attacks are projected to cost companies $2.1 trillion annually by 2019,” said Ada Yang, Senior Global Product Manager, Kensington. “More than 40% of consumers have been the victim of credit or debit card fraud, plus 33% of employees admit to sharing passwords with co-workers. And, 65% of employees admit to using the same password across applications. The first of its kind anywhere in the world, the Kensington VeriMark Fingerprint Key combines superior biometric performance and 360-degree readability with anti-spoofing technology and fingerprint activated collaboration capabilities. Incomparable protection against cyber-thieves is now available – and, it’s delivered in a compact design that easily attaches to a standard key ring at an equally unprecedented price.”

The VeriMark Fingerprint Key integrates the smallest size touch sensor available, provided by Synaptics, the leading developer of human interface solutions. Synaptics is breaking new ground with its Natural ID solutions that combine biometrics and advanced encryption into a series of fingerprint-authentication sensors enabling applications with high levels of security and ease of use.

“Due to the rapid growth of online payments, combined with the critical need for protecting access to PC data for businesses and consumers, biometric authentication has become the de facto standard for high performance security,” said Godfrey Cheng, Vice President of Marketing, Human Interface Systems Division (HISD), Synaptics. “The new Kensington VeriMark Fingerprint Key enables users to easily add fingerprint sensing to new and older Windows 10-based PCs. Our unique fingerprint sensors also feature Synaptics’ SentryPoint technology, offering Quantum Matcher with PurePrint anti-spoof technology. PurePrint examines fingerprint images using unique artificial intelligence technology to distinguish between fake and actual fingers.”

With support for Windows Hello, the VeriMark Fingerprint Key enables a more personal way to sign in to Windows 10 devices with just a look or a touch, while offering enterprise-grade security without the need for a password. The fingerprint key was designed to meet Windows Hello security requirements, and allows users without a fingerprint sensor in their computers to enjoy the benefits of faster, more secure login that Windows Hello affords.
