IoTSSA Kicks Off 2020 Cybersecurity Tour

The IoT Security Services Association holds the first of six one-day Cyber Security Expos in Houston, gathering IT service providers and security experts for networking and education.

The IoT Security Services Association (IoTSSA) is kicking off its 2020 six-city road tour today in Houston-Katy, Texas. The IoTSSA Cyber Security Expos, all being held at TopGolf locations throughout the U.S., gather IT service providers for a day of education and networking around the latest IoT and cybersecurity trends.

This morning, 20-year channel veteran Brian Sherman, content director of IoTSSA, opened the event, talking about the opportunity in the market for MSPs to capitalize on IoT and security.

Attendees also got a brief introduction from the security vendor experts present, and then Lisa Person, director of member relations for CompTIA, presented the latest in IoT research, some 2020 security predictions, and how these will impact the SMB and the MSP business.

Al Phillips, IoTSSA president and Robin Miller, director of channel.

Rounding out the morning, Billy Austin, president and co-founder at RocketCyber, shared a real-world attack campaign under current investigation from RocketCyber’s threat team, impacting numerous North American small businesses; and Stephen Weber, global MSP sales engineer at Sophos, talked about threats targeting end users and how admins can protect themselves against these threats. Finally, Tim Conkle, CEO of The 20, spoke with attendees about the human factor of cybersecurity.

Throughout the rest of the day, attendees will hear a presentation from Gill Langston, head security nerd at SolarWinds MSP, on the evolving threat landscape; and Eric Pinto, senior director of channel and product strategy at SOCSoter, along with his team, drills down into what’s driving cybercrime in 2020.

The afternoon also includes a pen test demo, an introduction to the new IoT Playbook from the publishers of ChannelPro, and a security expert panel.

After awards and sponsor prizes, attendees can participate in TopGolf free play and a networking reception to end the event.

Next up for the IoTSSA Cyber Security Expo road tour is March 24 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Find more information here.
