DLT Solutions Introduces Public Sector Application Framework

Called the Secure Software Factory, the new resource is designed to help government agencies and education organizations build and deploy secure, scalable, and reliable solutions on a repeatable basis.

Tech Data‘s DLT Solutions unit, a solutions aggregator serving the U.S. public sector market, has introduced a framework for creating and deploying secure, scalable, and reliable software applications on a repeatable basis.

Called the Secure Software Factory, the new resource is designed to help government agencies and education organizations reduce costs, shorten development cycles, and enhance solution quality by employing proven, pre-validated architectures when developing and delivering new business systems.†

“The SSF helps federal, state and local agencies and education (SLED) organizations accelerate their software delivery by creating, deploying and operating applications in a compatible, flexible and secure manner,” said Chris Wilkinson, senior vice president of sales at DLT, in a media statement. “It also enables DLT and Tech Data partners to meet U.S. public sector IT modernization demands more rapidly and at less cost by leveraging a suite of enterprise-grade tools that best meets their customers’ requirements and needs.”

According to DLT, end users can employ the SSF to build cloud, on-premises, and hybrid solutions. Based on the Kubernetes container platform, the framework includes guidelines and tools for everything from planning and integrating code enhancements, conducting quality assurance tests, and hunting for potential security vulnerabilities to deploying, running, and monitoring production releases.

“DLT’s SSF delivers applications quickly and gets stakeholder feedback rapidly, so changes including security-related remediations, can be incorporated faster and more efficiently,” said Rick Stewart, chief software technologist at DLT Solutions, in prepared remarks. “This is achieved by delivering smaller iterations of an application, automating the deployment process, and facilitating collaboration and communication between development, security and operation teams.”

Tech Data announced an agreement to acquire DLT last October in a bid to make serving public sector customers easier for its partners by providing access to solutions expertise, government-specific products, and over 50 in-house government contract vehicles. That transaction closed early in December, and DLT is now a wholly owned subsidiary of its new corporate parent.

The SSF is the latest addition to Tech Data’s growing family of “factories,” which includes the Cloud Solution Factory it introduced a year ago and the Internet of Things Solution Factory it launched last May. The company has been steadily rolling out “click-to-run” cloud solutions and market-ready IoT solutions based on its factory methodologies as well.

Tech Data announced a definitive agreement to be acquired by private equity investor Apollo Global Management last November. Originally valued at $5.4 billion, that deal subsequently became a $6 billion transaction following what CNBC reported was a competing bid from Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.
