Virtualization solutions developer DH2i has officially launched. The company’s mission, according to a DH2i press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB, is to “enable agile, always-on infrastructures, where applications can move freely and transparently within and between heterogeneous physical, virtual, and cloud environments.”
Along with the official launch of the company comes the launch of DH2i’s first (and flagship) product, DxConsole for SQL Server.
The DxConsole for SQL Server is a virtualization solution designed to address escalating costs, inefficiencies, and management complexities related to SQL Server sprawl. The product does this by enabling SMBs to virtualize SQL Server instances and consolidate SQL Server databases, servers, and storage into manageable private cloud utilities.
The database management system SQL Server has, as DH2i puts it, “reached epic proportions in regard to global IT deployment.” As such, database administers add SQL Servers instances over and over again, leading to what is commonly referred to as ‘SQL Server sprawl.'”
To help address this “sprawl,” which DH2i says creates “operational and financial problems,” the DxConsole solution enables the creation of a cloud utility whereby multiple SQL Server instances can be consolidated onto substantially fewer servers and centralized storage. DxConsole’s “shared data” architecture is designed to provide availability and flexibility in a cloud utility platform. †
Among the features of DxConsole for SQL Server are:

“Application virtualization means virtualizing apps at the instance level,” says DH2i founder and CEO Don Boxley. “DH2i application virtualization complements server virtualization. It is not an either/or choice. Server virtualization customers will use DH2i InstanceMobility to stack and move app instances freely between servers to obtain optimal consolidation and performance. Customers will still use server virtualization tools to move v-servers between hosts. Consequently, customers will enjoy two levels of virtual protection, at the app level and the sever level.”
