CTERA Networks and SYNNEX Partner in Cloud Storage Offering

All-in-one storage, backup, and file sharing solutions from CTERA integrate customer-premises managed appliances and software agents available via SYNNEX’s CLOUDSolv portal.

Cloud storage provider CTERA Networks has entered into an agreement with distributor SYNNEX Corp. SYNNEX’s CONVERGESolv group now offers to its reseller and MSP customers CTERA’s all-in-one storage, backup, and file sharing solutions that integrate customer-premises managed appliances and software agents with secure cloud storage through SYNNEX’s CLOUDSolv portal.

CTERA aims to provide “an easy entry into cloud storage,” mitigating customers’ concerns about cloud security and performance by using a hybrid solution that delivers LAN-speed access and end-to-end security. The solution includes out-of-the-box NAS, backup, file collaboration, and mobile access.

“By integrating all these functions into a single solution, CTERA greatly reduces the complexity and the cost of ownership compared to disparate file and backup server products, ideal for the limited budgets of small businesses,” states SYNNEX in a press release submitted to ChannelPro-SMB.

“Hybrid cloud storage is a major growth area, especially in the SMB market,” says Clay Rogers, CTERA’s director of channel development. “By combining SYNNEX’s distribution expertise and extensive reseller base with CTERA’s channel-ready solution, we are creating a high-margin opportunity for resellers to enter the cloud storage space with a managed service that requires minimal upfront investment.”

With CTERA, resellers are enabled to offer a managed storage service they fully control and brand. Each reseller receives access to its own management portal that enables custom service plans, remote administration and central monitoring.† Resellers can have the choice of launching their offering based on the SYNNEX CLOUDSolv portal or leverage their own datacenter for running their private cloud.

“Cloud computing is an important strategic direction for us,” says Bob Stegner, SYNNEX’s senior vice president of marketing. “With CTERA, our partners now have a comprehensive SMB storage solution that enables them to ease customers into the cloud at their own pace. The CTERA solution offers our partners flexibility and control over branding, pricing and backend cloud storage infrastructure.”

CTERA offers such features as:

  • Choice of Hardware – Cloud storage gateway appliances ranging from 2-bay to 8-bay systems, supporting RAID, NAS and thin snapshots with a web-based management interface.
  • Local Backup – Managed backup agents for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Application aware backup for Exchange, Active Directory, and SQL Server, including bare-metal and single mailbox recovery options.
  • Cloud Backup – Automatic cloud replication, using deduplication and encryption for maximum security and WAN efficiency.
  • Collaboration – Web-based interface enabling users to create project workspaces and invite users without requiring administrator intervention.
  • Mobile App – iOS and Android apps for easy and secure data access from anywhere.
  • Central Management – Remote administration and automatic firmware updates.
