CompTIA’s Communities & Councils Forum Taking Place in Chicago

The second annual gathering gives participants an opportunity to explore and discuss pressing issues and opportunities in the tech industry today, as well as formulate initiatives for the future.

CompTIA‘s second annual Communities & Councils Forum (CCF) is taking place this week, March 11 to 13, in Chicago. The objective of the CompTIA CCF is to discuss and explore some of the most pressing issues and opportunities in the tech industry today. It’s also an chance for members of the industry to formulate and collaborate on 2019 member initiatives that will have a positive impact on their market spaces.†

New this year, CCF has been expanded to include members of CompTIA’s five Industry Advisory Councils—Blockchain, Business Applications, Drones, Smart Cities, and the Channel Advisory Board—in addition to its seven U.S. Communities: Emerging Technology, Advancing Women in Technology, Advancing Diversity in Technology, Technology Lifecycle Services, Future Leaders, IT Security, and Managed Services. Community meetings are being held throughout both days of the event.

On the agenda today, CompTIA’s Chief Technology Evangelist James Stanger hosts a panel on the “future gap”—the space between what emerging tech has made possible and what’s actually been adopted.

Two workshops are being held this afternoon: “Hidden Figures: Opening Up Cybersecurity Careers to Women,” hosted by the Advancing Women in Technology and IT Security Communities; and “How Emerging Technologies Can Bolster Diversity and Inclusion,” hosted by the Emerging Technology and Advancing Diversity in Technology Communities.

Tomorrow, Charles Eaton, CEO of Creating IT Futures, an IT nonprofit charity founded by CompTIA, will discuss Innovative Approaches to Addressing the Skills Gap.

During lunch, CompTIA’s research experts and hosts of the podcast Volley, Carolyn April and Seth Robinson, will guide the audience through the latest industry trends based on CompTIA’s Industry Outlook report.

Workshops tomorrow include: “XaaS and Recurring Revenue in the World of Business Technology,” hosted by the Managed Services Community; and “You’ve Been Slacked, Now What?”, hosted by the Technology Lifecycle Services and Future Leaders Communities. It will discuss the unique challenges in today’s workplace and what it takes to increase active communication.

The CCF will wrap up with the various communities sharing their discoveries and plans for the coming year, inviting all attendee feedback and conversation.
