Cloud distributor and service provider AppRiver is adding ZixEncrypt, an email encryption solution from parent company Zix Corp., to its lineup of email security products.
Zix bought AppRiver in January in a $275 million cash transaction that closed in February. Offering one of its core solutions to AppRiver’s more than 60,000 customers and 4,500 MSP partners worldwide represents an early step in ongoing efforts by Zix to market an end-to-end catalog of email security solutions from both vendors, according to CEO Dave Wagner.
“AppRiver’s 4,500-strong reseller network—and the tens of thousands of businesses they work with—will now have access to the same encryption technology that protects many of the nation’s largest financial and healthcare institutions,” Wagner said in prepared remarks. “That we were able to integrate Zix email encryption into the AppRiver platform in just 64 days speaks to how well-aligned the two companies are and highlights why the acquisition was so powerful.”
ZixEncrypt scans subject lines, message bodies, and attachments for financial, healthcare, and other sensitive information. Policy-based filters then automatically encrypt, log, route, block, and brand outgoing emails as necessary, or allow them to proceed with no further action. All of that activity takes place behind the scenes, so users can send and read messages just like they normally would. The end result, according to Zix, is a solution that helps businesses comply with data privacy regulations yet is easy to deploy and use.
“Our channel partners let us know very clearly that they wanted Zix solutions even before the acquisition,” said Chris Essex, AppRiver’s senior vice president of global sales, in a media statement. “We’re very proud that our combined team was able to bring encryption into our suite so quickly—and we look forward to adding others in the months ahead.”
In recent months, Zix has introduced a cloud-based security and compliance bundle and added 48 newly supported data sources to its email archiving solution.
