Active Media Announces a Predator in its Midst

Company’s latest solid state drive, the Predator X7, is a 2.5-inch, SATA-II, 3 Gbps, Windows 7-compatible solution offered in capacities from 32 GB to 256 GB.

Active Media Products, known for its solid state and USB drives, announced its latest undertaking this month: the Predator X7.Active Media Predator XL

The Predator X7 line includes 2.5-inch, SATA-II, 3 Gbps, Windows 7-compatible SSDs built with the new Jmicron JM612 controller. Predator X7 SSDs will be offered in capacities from 32 GB to 256 GB.

At the heart of these SSDs is the JMF612 controller, which boasts numerous advances in features and performance, according to Active Media. The eight-channel flash controller, combined with 128 MB of DRAM cache achieves sequential read speeds up to 230 MB per second and sequential write speeds up to 180 MB per second.

“One big advantage of this controller is its support for a USB 2.0 port,” says Active Media vice president of sales Jerry Thomson, “which can be used for cloning the contents of your old hard drive onto the Predator X7.” He adds, “The mini USB port makes installation and setup a lot faster and easier.”

Predator X7 SSDs feature hardware ECC, bad block management, and wear-leveling features that help ensure accurate storage and retrieval of data over the life of the product.

Predator X7 SSDs are expected to begin shipping in November at retail prices starting at $149. They will be available worldwide from Amazon and other Active Media Products resellers.
