Acronis Ships Cyber Protect Security Solution

Unveiled last fall and now in general availability, the edge and endpoint security system comes with recently-added functionality designed to help partners and end users tackle new challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Acronis has put Cyber Protect, the multi-function security and backup solution it unveiled last fall, into general availability.

A core part of the company’s campaign to remake itself from BDR vendor to “cyber protection” leader, the new product includes recently-added functionality for tackling security challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Designed to provide a comprehensive answer to data security and availability requirements, Acronis Cyber Protect combines backup, disaster recovery, anti-malware, anti-ransomware, web filtering, and data authenticity validation capabilities in a tightly-integrated package featuring one agent and a unified license.

“Traditional backup solutions are dead because they are not secure enough, and traditional anti-virus applications do not protect data from modern cyberthreats. Legacy solutions are no longer able to counter the dangers today’s businesses face,” said Acronis CEO Serguei  Beloussov in a media statement. “Service providers need to offer their clients integrated cyber protection that covers all Five Vectors of Cyber Protection—safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity, and security. With Acronis Cyber Protect, service providers have the ability to deliver solutions that ensure their clients are #CyberFit and ready to face any new threats to their data, applications, and systems.”

Since Cyber Protect made its official debut at Acronis’s Global Cyber Summit event last October, it has acquired features designed to make safeguarding users working from home during the COVID-19 crisis easier. Those include default templates with secure protection plans for remote work devices, built-in VPN technology, secure file sync and share integration, and remote data wipe functionality.

Measures designed to relieve the coronavirus-related financial pressures many service providers are experiencing at present include the ability to buy Cyber Protect for the same price as Acronis Cyber Backup Cloud through July 31st. Partners can pause billing for non-paying customers as well while preserving their backups.

Enhancements aimed at end users include a new voice-enabled, touchless control feature for remote connections to office machines and access to coronavirus-related security alerts from Acronis Cyber Protection Operations Centers.

According to Acronis, Cyber Protect scored a perfect 100% detection rate in a March test involving 6,932 malicious Windows executable (PE) files conducted by German security institute AV-Test.org, as well as a perfect score in a separate test of false positive results.

“With Acronis Cyber Protect, TeamLogic IT—Concord has the opportunity to provide our clients with a single solution to deliver backup, anti-malware, security and management capabilities, helping them to advance their businesses further,” said Gary Connolly, owner of TeamLogic IT’s franchise in Concord, Calif. “Overall, my experience using Acronis Cyber Protect has been really positive and I’m looking forward to using this product more frequently.”

Cyber Protect is one element in larger set of cyber protection technologies announced by Acronis last fall. The system runs on Acronis Cyber Infrastructure, a hyperconverged infrastructure solution for storing backups and running recovery environments, as well as an underlying set of foundation technologies called Acronis Cyber Platform that includes APIs, SDKs, documentation, a dedicated support team, and a developer portal.

All three of those offerings integrate with Acronis Cyber Cloud, the company’s multi-tenant, cross-product SaaS platform for service providers.

At present, Cyber Protect is available exclusively as a managed service delivered by MSPs via Cyber Cloud. An on-premises version of the product is scheduled to arrive in the second half of the year, and a personal edition is slated to ship in the third quarter.

Acronis launched an updated version of its #CyberFit Partner Program with increased marketing resources, expanded education and enablement resources, and other benefits last week.
