With the year-end and holiday season upon us, timing could be ideal to add your next impactful staff member to your team. Many of VAR Staffing’s clients use December to get a head start accelerating their success in the coming New Year. Here are just a few of our observations made over the years of successfully placing candidates between Thanksgiving and New Years:
Candidates can have greater interview flexibility. With unemployment at record lows in the IT sector, the best candidates are often currently employed. During the holidays there can be greater flexibility with schedules, which it makes it easier for the best candidates to be available for interviews.
Passive candidates are often more receptive to exploring. The holidays are time for reflection and resolutions for the New Year. The best employees are often the “work horses” in their current environment, and use this holiday period to analyze their past performance and future career opportunities. These “best of breed” candidates are often more receptive to our messaging in the holiday season.
Transition is easier in the “down time”. New hires can transition easier in December as many clients are not aggressively changing their business, therefore allowing technical staff members increased flexibility. Also, including a new hire in a festive holiday party setting is a great way to build team rapport and welcome them into the fold.
Have your team in place ready to go at the start of the year. Expanding on the previous “getting a head start” theme, there is always an acclimation process for new hires; why delay the beginning of this process to the new year? Instead, place a priority of hitting the first days of the New Year with a fully transitioned staff ready to go.
