Dell to Acquire Quest Software: What Does It Mean for the Partners?

Dell and Quest Software have entered into a definitive agreement for Dell to acquire the IT management software provider. Dell recently created a software group and will now add Quest's products to its lineup.

Historically, Dell hasn't always been known as the most channel-friendly company. Just a few years ago, Dell's direct competition with its own partners was almost a running joke in the industry. But in recent years, Dell has made much more of an effort to assure its partners of its new channel friendliness. Even through numerous acquisitions -- SonicWALL, Wyse Technology, Clerity, to name a few -- Dell has proven that it has a new attitude towards the channel.

According to a release from Quest Software, "The acquisition provides critical components to expand Dell's software capabilities in systems management, security, data protection and workspace management. In addition, Quest's software portfolio is highly complementary to Dell's scalable design approach to develop solutions that scale with customer needs."

Basically, this appears to be nothing but good news for Dell partners. It's safe to assume that Dell will integrate some of its current software and hardware capabilities with Quest's portfolio of solutions, likely improving the partner experience. Dell partners will have unprecedented access to IT management software that's considered top of the line.

As for Quest customers, the company blog assures that "combining Quest's award-winning products and people with Dell's considerable influence means you will have access to increased IT knowledge and resources to help your company succeed... customers have always been our first priority. Solving key customer pains and supporting our customers relentlessly are the driving forces behind our success and frankly, why we love to come to work every day. Those things will not change as we begin making this transition."
