IT and Business Insights for SMB Solution Providers

Vendor to Watch: RocketCyber

RocketCyber makes a platform designed to help MSPs get into cybersecurity quickly. By Colleen Frye

IF A MANAGED endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution takes “an 18-wheeler to bring out all the technology and an army to deploy it,” it’s just not practical for MSPs, according to Billy Austin (pictured), president of RocketCyber, an EDR security platform provider. The same is true if the system is incompatible with an MSP’s tools and business model, or priced higher than MSPs can afford.

Simplicity and affordability, though, are the pillars of RocketCyber’s cloud-based solution, Austin stresses. “Literally within a matter of minutes the MSP can start to deliver continuous cybersecurity monitoring.”

Founded in February 2017 by Austin and Carl Banzhof, CEO, RocketCyber is the third act for this security duo. They met in the early 2000s at Citadel Security, which was acquired by McAfee. In 2012, they launched iScan Online, a data breach risk solution, acquired by SolarWinds in 2016.

The RocketCyber Cloud Platform includes a multitenant admin console, lightweight agents for 24/7 monitoring, APIs for third-party integrations, and various RocketApps that MSPs can use to provide threat hunting, cryptocurrency mining detection, suspicious tools detection services, and more.

RocketCyber integrates with RMMs from Datto, ConnectWise, Kaseya, and Syncro, with plans upcoming for SolarWinds MSP. No separate installation is required to turn on apps, and PSA alerts (ConnectWise and Datto’s Autotask PSA) are supported for all RocketApps.

Austin says RocketCyber plans to expand past the endpoint with other types of RocketApps soon, as well as to allow third-party vendors to add apps. The company is also developing a channel and marketing program, and brought on a channel director in April.

The RocketCyber platform is available as a self-managed service or as a SaaS offering managed by RocketCyber. Pricing is $1 per endpoint if MSPs roll it out and run it themselves, or $3 per endpoint if RocketCyber is responsible. There is no minimum endpoint count and no long-term commitment either way, Austin says. “Simply sign up and start doing.” No 18-wheeler required.
