Vendor to Watch: CloudOak

This company’s newest product turns business continuity planning from a paper-based afterthought to an automated recurring revenue opportunity. By Rich Freeman

THOUGH LITTLE MORE than a year old, CloudOak isn’t exactly new to us at ChannelPro. CUBE, its easy-to-use, affordably priced storage and business continuity solution for SMBs, landed the company a spot on our Vendors on the Vanguard list for 2019, after all.

What got CloudOak back on our radar is its second product, Plan4Continuity. Introduced late last year, the cloud-based system helps users plot out every action they need to take after an earthquake, fire, or other disaster, from checking that employees are safe to restoring communications with customers, inventorying damaged IT gear, and beyond. Most businesses keep such plans on paper, if they have them at all.

“Partners shy away from doing those plans because they’re all manual,” says Troy Cheeseman, CloudOak’s chief strategy officer.

Plan4Continuity, by contrast, not only helps users create business continuity plans compliant with the ISO 22301 standard in minutes, but then walks them step by step through those plans during a crisis, capturing each person’s actions in real time for post-incident reporting. There’s functionality for documenting continuity readiness during audits as well.

All of that makes businesses safer and reduces costly downtime, but it also gives MSPs a new way to earn recurring revenue. “Before, at best, if they did DR plans for their clients, it was a loss leader,” Cheeseman notes. “Now they can easily offer this as a service.” And because the system is priced inexpensively, he adds, that service can produce steep margins.

The system integrates with a growing list of third-party products too. Last but not least, it’s sold exclusively through the channel.
