Eaton power distribution units (PDUs) are giving channel partners another power management tool to help their small and midsize customers reduce risk, plus save time and money—and another opportunity to enhance revenue and grow their business. Providing best-in-class power distribution to computing equipment within a rack, Eaton's PDUs enhance operation by improving efficiency and uptime, and maximizing control of the IT environment.
Efficient and reliable power management is a growing demand in today's businesses, large and small, and channel partners are seeing a need in the PDU space in particular, says Jessica Biggerstaff, product manager at Eaton Corp., a $20 billion-plus power management and service company. Indeed, PDU is a growing market, she says, "outpacing the UPS market by 3x." Eaton's PDU portfolio keeps its partners on the leading edge of that trend and provides them with a total power management solution to offer their customers, she says.
As racks grow more dense, the amount of outlets a UPS offers is becoming inadequate, Biggerstaff points out. The increasing need for power distribution is not only an issue for enterprise data centers, but for SMBs and remote and branch offices as well. "We've rounded out our portfolio, offering PDUs that meet all of those needs," she says.
In addition to meeting a range of needs, Eaton PDUs offer a variety of competitive advantages, Biggerstaff says. For example, the light-weight aluminum chassis is easy to install, has lower shipping costs than competitors' models made from steel, dissipates heat for better performance in high-density environments, and offers better electrical conductivity for improved electrical grounding.
Other advantages include a high temperature threshold, which minimizes cooling needs; and 1 percent billing grade accuracy on all metered and managed options, "which allows the customer to charge for electric and power usage if they choose," Biggerstaff says. The units also feature gripping outlets to prevent accidental disconnects and a hot-swappable meter, and Eaton's patented daisy-chain capability allows up to eight PDUs to share the same network connection and IP address.
Importantly, Eaton PDUs are channel-friendly, Biggerstaff emphasizes. "All PDUs are available within Eaton distribution warehouses and IT distribution outlets." And through its Power Advantage Partner Program, Eaton offers an aggressive array of benefits to help partners grow their businesses.
The PDU offerings not only provide opportunity for partners to gain net-new business, but also give them another reason to talk with existing customers about their power management needs, Biggerstaff points out.
"We're excited that the PDU family allows our partners to have an even deeper connection with their end users. It's part of our total power management solution that also includes UPS, software, and services. It definitely creates more revenue opportunities for our partners."
