IT and Business Insights for SMB Solution Providers

Editor's Note: A New Year, New Chapter

Elaine Hom, Web Editor, discusses the year ahead and what SMB IT service providers can expect from 2011, including security threats and a technology forecast. By Elaine J. Hom

Hello, everyone! As the new Web Editor for ChannelProSMB.com, I am really excited to share the latest news and tips for IT service providers who work in the SMB channel. I encourage all feedback and hope to make ChannelProSMB.com more of a community, so please feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, info, etc. at [email protected].

With 2010 behind us and 2011 upon us, it's important to look forward and see what the year has in store. Be sure to check out the top SMB IT security concerns for 2011, including malware, social networking, and mobile devices.  It can be hard to get customers to spend money on security, as many SMBs are convinced that a simple firewall is enough. The ROI on security is harder to quantify to customers, but this list (and a deep understanding of the cyber dangers to SMBs) may help you convince them otherwise.

Our technology forecast for 2011 has a few predictable trends, including cloud computing, but there may be something in there that surprises you. Could this be the year for unified communications?

I'm looking forward to a 2011 full of technological innovations, exciting channel news, and getting to know the readers of ChannelProSMB.com.
