EATON'S NEW 9PXM uninterruptible power supply (UPS), designed to protect power from 4–20kVA, hits the sweet spot of a growing market, offering the flexibility to pay as you grow with a strong business continuity story.
"The 5 to 10kVA range is really growing," says Graciano Beyhaut, senior product line manager for Eaton Corp. The 9PXM gives channel partners with a power management practice the ability to focus on the higher end of the market as well as target a wide range of data center, industrial, and commercial use cases. "Rack density is something that is growing, and so partners are able to have conversations about power that may be on the higher range," Beyhaut says. "The 9PXM offers partners the ability to continue to grow in that adjacency power category where your margins are richer."
The 9PXM UPS is available in two form factors: a 14U unit that can scale up to 16kVA, and a 21U unit that can scale up to 20kVA (N+1). "Pay to grow is definitely becoming more critical today than in the past," Beyhaut says, adding that with the 9PXM partners can help SMBs with their current power requirements while offering them the flexibility to expand redundancy and runtime as those needs change.
The modular, scalable design is well suited for edge UPS configurations, and the plug-and-play power and battery modules are user-replaceable, which saves partners service calls. In addition, the design creates an N+X redundancy for power and logic in a single UPS, which eliminates the possibility of a system-level single point of failure. Power efficiency is a given in today's market, Beyhaut says, but the ability to assure business continuity is what truly sets the 9PXM apart.
Moreover, he adds, power management is becoming a very critical part of the conversation in the smarter, connected world, where channel partners are being tapped by SMB customers to act as solution consultants, "whether it’s VoIP or other challenges they have to address for the customer around virtualization or getting them ready for some hybrid cloud deployments."
So far, reception from the channel has been enthusiastic, Beyhaut states. Partners like the 9PXM’s configurability, he says, "so depending on how many electronic modules or how many battery modules you need, you're able to configure it to the size and the requirement that you have in the field or in your specific application."
Eaton provides an online self-service configuration tool on the partner portal, or partners can work with the pre-sales engineering group.
And from now until the end of the year, Eaton is offering Power Advantage partners special incentives and price promotions for the 9PXM, which is manufactured in Youngsville, N.C., so partners needn't worry about issues abroad impacting the supply chain or price either.
For partners, the 9PXM's high power rating, small footprint, and easy rack conversion make it an ideal backup power solution for a wide range of IT applications.
