CognoSystems owns its lane of disaster recovery and data protection, which is why it chose Carbonite as a vendor-partner to accelerate that journey to protecting customers’ critical assets while growing its business.
Logan Davidson, managing director and co-founder of the Ontario-based IT services provider, says his firm aims to help customers solve business problems and meet their goals regarding “data resiliency, backup, and disaster recovery.”
With Carbonite’s Data Protection Platform and portfolio of solutions, CognoSystems is able to "service all kinds of customers, whether they need long-term retention or fast recoveries and high availability," Davidson says. "Basically, any requirement the customer needs, we can facilitate with Carbonite."
In particular, he says Carbonite enables CognoSystems to offer its customers affordable long-term backup capabilities. “Carbonite is extremely efficient on disk. If you need to keep a lot of data a long time, it's very good at doing that. It allows us to offer exceptional pricing for our customers that need that long-term retention.”
Moreover, Davidson says Carbonite’s broad portfolio opens up different types of revenue opportunities. For example, he says, "Disaster recovery encompasses a lot, and you need to define that with each customer." For some, disaster recovery means backup; for others it means business continuity, Davidson explains. Carbonite allows CognoSystems to offer both, as well as long-term retention. "So there's essentially a three-prong attack" for sales, he says. "Define what they want and then say, ‘what about these other two aspects that you're forgetting about? Carbonite can service all three of those prongs."
Carbonite’s wide range of features also open up different options for customers, Davidson says, explaining that CognoSystems can assemble solutions based on recovery time objectives for each application. "Say these select applications need fast recovery and then these other ones are not so mission-critical. You can have a more detailed disaster recovery plan structured for each customer," saving them money in areas that do not require high-speed recovery. "You can select the appropriate service per application."
Davidson adds that because all of Carbonite’s solutions are under one product portfolio, management is "very low touch. It's great to have one [umbrella] for a lot of different services that we can offer our customers." The platform also enables CognoSystems to run reports and identify and address any issues. "It's very simple. You set it and forget it," he says.
The value of the partner relationship extends beyond the product suite too, Davidson says. "It's the people we work with as well," he explains. "They help every step of the way, from the first sales call to the end support." He says the vendor also offers marketing support, and in competitive situations works with CognoSystems "to help us get the deal done."
Davidson says CognoSystems looks for partners that mirror the company’s core values—"honest, reliable, and dedicated. That's exactly what they provide us. They have a great track record. They've been around for a long time. Their product is proven."
