Recent polling data from the IT community and tools vendor suggests that when it comes to technicians, money isn’t the key to happiness after all.
Fully 45 percent of IT professionals plan to search for or move into a new position this year, according to a late 2016 research study from Austin, Texas-based IT community and tools vendor Spiceworks Inc., and nearly two-thirds of those job hunters cite more money as their top motivator. Does a higher salary inevitably lead to greater workplace happiness though? Not according to newer Spiceworks data published last week, which suggests other factors are at least as important.

Results of the Spiceworks 2017 IT Job Satisfaction report, which polled 1,295 IT professionals in the U.S. and U.K., suggest that the smaller the company a tech works for the likelier they are to have gripes about their paycheck. Indeed, while 54 percent of research participants at businesses with 1,000 or more employees believe they’re paid fairly, just 43 percent of survey respondents at organizations with fewer than 500 people on staff feel the same way.
