Sapphire Radeon Toxic HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 Review

IF you are looking for an HD 6870 for your system, the Sapphire Toxic Edition is a solid player in the game, excellent cooling, performance and overclocking abound. By Motherboards.org

With the recent launch of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX560 card, the mainstream market has been redefined. AMD launched the HD 6870 late last year in October aimed squarely at the $250 price point. NVIDIA countered this with their GeForce GTX 460 lowering the price to compete but their true solution to the HD 6870 didn’t launch till January of this year.

Of course, the two competing companies are all about competing against each other to gain market share in the graphics card market. AMD launched a two-prong assault on the GTX560, lowering the prices of their HD 6870 to $219.99 and releasing a new card, the 1GB version of their high-end HD 6950 at a slightly higher price point than the GTX560. This market is hard fought in this price range as the minority of people wanting a high-end video card is much smaller than the $200-300 price range. The HD 6870 at $220 is a decent buy. Today’s review is on the Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 Toxic card, which is their overclocked version of the reference card.
