Veeam to Give Away Up To $200 Million of Free DRaaS

Delivered through partners, the offer entitles users of Veeam’s on-premises BDR and disaster recovery solutions to as much as $1,000 worth of cloud-based data protection and availability services at no cost.

Veeam Software is offering users of its on-premises solutions up to $1,000 worth of access to Cloud Connect, its cloud-based BDR and Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) system, at no cost.

The Swiss data protection vendor, whose U.S. headquarters are in Atlanta, plans to spend up to $200 million on the giveaway, which applies to any end user organization with an active maintenance contract for Veeam’s Availability Suite, Backup & Replication, and Backup Essentials products. Available exclusively in North America through March 31st, the offer will expand to other parts of the globe over the next few months.

Members of Veeam’s Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) partner program will deliver the free cloud services to eligible customers, turning the offer into an opportunity for Veeam to promote its DRaaS solution and resellers simultaneously.

“Veeam is committed to helping our channel partners continue to grow and realize value from the shift to cloud services,” says Kevin Rooney, Veeam’s vice president of North American channel sales, in a press statement. “The Free Cloud Services Program is an excellent catalyst for Veeam partners to create new business opportunities while delivering long-term value to their customers.”

Cloud Connect debuted in 2014. The solution is designed to help Veeam and its partners grab a share of a global market for DRaaS services that will triple between now and 2019 to $3.4 billion, according to Gartner.

“Organizations across the globe are increasingly adopting cloud platforms for IT and business solutions, and they need an Availability platform that is scalable, reliable, secure and adaptable enough to leverage multi-cloud infrastructures,” said Paul Mattes, vice president of Veeam’s Global Cloud Group, in a press statement. “We, along with our partners, recognize this opportunity and are fully committing to major investments supporting our partners and end-users, and further delivering on our cloud vision and strategy.”

As of last month, Veeam’s VCSP program included over 14,300 service and cloud providers worldwide, more than 2,600 of whom are licensed to provide Veeam Cloud Connect services. VCSP members produced 79 percent year-over-year revenue growth for Veeam in the company’s 2016 fiscal year, which concluded last December.

Veeam also announced today that it has appointed Danny Allan its new vice president of cloud integration and alliance strategy. Allan was formerly CTO of Lexington, Mass.-based desktop-as-a-service vendor Desktone, a unit of Palo Alto, Calif.-based VMware Inc.

“The broad and consistent focus on business agility and the cloud for success in today’s digital economy sets Veeam and its partners for an unmatched opportunity,” said Allan in a press release. “I have consistently been impressed by both the immediate Veeam team, as well as the VCSPs and customers who are members of that extended team.”

Veeam has been in the news most recently for bundled backup solutions it has introduced with distributors Ingram Micro Inc., of Irvine, Calif., and Arrow Electronics, of Centennial, Colo.
