TP-LINK’s 8-Port PoE+ Switch Enables Simple Wired Network Expansion

The eight-port GB desktop/rack-mountable switch supports the power-over-Ethernet (PoE+) standard, enabling SMBs to expand a wired network by transferring power and data over a single Ethernet cable.

Networking solutions manufacturer TP-LINK is offering channel pros a new tool for expanding existing networks.

The “plug-n-play”-enabled, 8-port PoE+ (Power over Ethernet Plus) gigabit desktop/rackmount switch (Model TL-SG1008PE) transfers electrical power, along with data, in a single Ethernet cable. This enables users to expand networks to hard-to-power locations.

“The 124W total power budget is perfect for users that need to extend their network to IP surveillance cameras, IP phones, access points, or other PoE+ enabled devices,” TP-LINK states in a press release submitted to ChannelPro-SMB.

The TL-SG1008PE supplies power to any IEEE 802.3af/at-compliant device across all eight available ports.

In addition, the built-in priority function protects the system in the event of a power overload and is intuitively arranged according to the number of each port, one being the highest priority and eight being the lowest. If all connected devices consume power that is greater than or equal to 124W, the switch will cut off power from the lowest-priority port, preserving the functionality of the most essential devices.

Highlighted features of the TL-SG1008PE include:

  • Eight 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 ports.
  • Eight fully enabled PoE+ ports.
  • Compatible with IEEE 802.3af/at compliant devices.
  • Plug-N-Play design.
  • Built in port-priority function.

The TL-SG1008PE carries an MSRP of $199.99 and is already available at retail and online locations. †
