Toshiba Enters the Chromebook Market with a 13.3-inch Model

The aptly named Toshiba Chromebook offers up to nine hours of battery life and features a Haswell-based Intel Celeron processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 16GB SSD.

With CES kicking off tomorrow in Las Vegas, new products are popping up like toadstools after a rainstorm. Case in point, today Toshiba’s Digital Products Division announced the company’s first entry into the Chromebook market with its 3.3-pound, 0.8-inch slim Toshiba Chromebook.

Like other Chromebooks, this one is aimed at the education market and consumers. It features a 13.3-inch diagonal HD TruBrite display with 1366 x 768 screen resolution and a full-size “Chrome-optimized” keyboard and large touchpad. It also offers a Haswell-based Intel Celeron processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 16GB solid state drive, providing fast startup and a handy nine hours of battery life.

Toshiba’s Chromebook is also equipped with 100GB Google Drive storage out of the box, enabling storage for files and media that can be synced, shared, and accessed across smartphones and other devices. The two USB 3.0 ports, full-size HDMI port, security lock slot, and memory card reader-plus Bluetoth 4.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi-provide laptop-like essentials.

Starting February 16, look for the $279.99 (MSRP) Toshiba Chromebook at major retailers and e-tailers, or on the company’s website. For an up close and personal peek, visit Toshiba at CES in Central Hall booth #10926.
