Application-optimized server solutions maker Super Micro Computer Inc. has announced that its new line of power-efficient server solutions is now in volume production.
The 2U, 3U, and 4U/Tower series of servers feature Supermicro’s 920-watt power supply. This power supply has achieved Platinum-level certification–the highest certification possible–from the 80PLUS organization.
The new SuperServers and SuperChassis employ Supermicro’s advanced cooling subsystems. Supermicro CEO and president Charles Liang says these features and others address the “primary challenges facing datacenters today.”
Liang adds, “These servers also help IT managers reduce data center cooling costs, improve the cost-effectiveness of server deployments, and reduce the typical TCO up to $300 per system during its lifetime.”

Supermicro’s SuperServers feature a Universal I/O (UIO) interface on the 2U SuperServers 6026T-URF4 and 2026T-URF4. “UIO empowers customers to choose from an extensive selection of Supermicro I/O cards, including 6 Gbps SAS, 1 0GbE, FibreChannel, and QDR/DDR InfiniBand subsystems,” the company states in a press release submitted to EH Publishing.
These 2U servers feature redundant power, four GbE ports, and 18 DIMMs for up to 192 GB of ECC-registered DDR3 memory. While the 6026T-URF4 supports eight 3.5-inch hot-swap SAS/SATA hard drives, the 2026T-URF4 supports sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap drives.
In addition to the 2U models, Supermicro offers the 3U SuperServer 6036T-6RF and 4U/tower SuperServer 7046T-6F. Like their 2U counterparts, these servers also support up to 192 GB of memory and onboard IPMI 2.0 management with remote media and KVM-over-LAN. Moreover, these servers both feature onboard 6 Gbps SAS controllers to support up to eight 3.5-inch hot-swap SAS2 hard drives, offering enhanced I/O performance and reliability.
Supermicro’s new server solutions support the entire range of new six-core Intel Xeon Processor 5600/3600 Series. “When loaded with the latest Intel Xeon Processor 5600/3600 Series,” states Supermicro in a press release, “these servers boost performance 60 percent compared to the previous generation of Nehalem solutions.”
The recent Supermicro launch also includes ten new SuperChassis, powered by Supermicro’s 920-watt power supply. Eight of these are 2U chassis. Four of the 2U models support up to four UIO and standard full-height, full-length add-on cards plus three low-profile ones, and the other four models support up to seven low-profile add-on cards.
The SC219 and SC216 series support 2.5-inch hot-swap hard drives, and the SC829 series support up to eight 3.5-inch hot-swap drives. The new SC835TQ-R920B chassis supports up to seven full-height, full-length add-on cards and features 100 percent cooling redundancy. Even if a key fan fails, the system will continue operating without any decrease in performance. The SC745TQ-920B combines the same features as the SC835 into a tool-less design that can support high-performance GPUs.
