Spiceworks Debuts New Network Monitoring and Mobile Applications

The company’s real-time monitoring dashboard helps IT professionals address issues before they happen, while new mobile apps provide tools to manage technology environments on the go.

At SpiceWorld London,†Spiceworks introduced a free, real-time network monitoring application for IT professionals looking for an at-a-glance view of the health and status of their server and networking devices. The introduction of Spiceworks Network Monitor complements its existing network inventory, help desk, and mobile device management applications and provides new monitoring capabilities.

“A real-time network monitoring application is a natural extension of the Spiceworks platform and an important capability our users have asked us to build,” says Scott Abel, co-founder and CEO of Spiceworks. “Like our other applications, we’ve focused on building a monitoring solution that’s easy to install and use while also providing the information IT professionals need to do their jobs – for free. We’ll continue to expand the platform with Spiceworks and third-party applications that add value to an IT professional’s day and help them work more efficiently.”†

Spiceworks Network Monitor provides a real-time, graphical view of network utilization plus server activity including disk and CPU usage, system memory, active processes and services, and other critical infrastructure information. The application also provides real-time alerting for more than 10 server and network conditions as well as the ability for IT professionals to address potential issues through a remote desktop connection. Spiceworks Network Monitor runs on a Microsoft Windows-based server.

In addition to the Monitoring Network Application, Spiceworks also unveiled its new Android and iOS mobile applications. The mobile apps offer IT professionals the tools they need to connect with peers, read the latest IT content, and manage their technology environment on the go.

The apps connect to users’ existing Spiceworks installations and provide real-time updates on new devices and software on the network, end-user support requests, and conversations happening among peers in the professional network for IT. Mobile enhancements include:

  • Community access – IT professionals can use Spiceworks’ mobile applications to access technology news and more than 400,000 discussions between peers and technology brands in the Spiceworks network.
  • New user interface – User interface improvements including an updated look and feel, navigation sidebar, and pull-to-refresh features.
  • Help desk features – IT professionals can now use Spiceworks’ mobile applications to comment on as well as add time and purchasing information to help desk tickets. Additionally, new push notifications keep IT professionals up-to-date on new and ongoing end-user support requests.†

The new Spiceworks mobile apps for devices running Android 4.0 and later and iOS-based devices will be available in the Google Play store and Apple’s App Store this month.†
