Skydog Home Networking Package Now Shipping

The cloud-based router allows users to manage home networks and online access.

Back in April, PowerCloud Systems launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the Skydog cloud-connected router. Not only did the company deliver on those campaign promises, but it’s now offering the product to the masses.

Skydog is a combination Wi-Fi router and app designed for homes that are overloaded with web-enabled devices. When connected, this combo actually allows users to control home networking use, as well as every aspect of online access.

This setup promises to go beyond the typical parental controls. Yes-it can actually put the kibosh on your usage as well. In fact, users can create a unique set of policies for each individual user and their devices. It also lets you know who is on the network, as well as what that person is doing online. Other features include filter and scheduling options, text and email alerts, and firewalled zones.

“The proliferation of devices, coupled with an insatiable demand for connectivity from each member of the family, has created new challenges in managing the home network,” said Jeff Abramowitz, founder and CEO of PowerCloud Systems. “Skydog is the only home networking solution that gives parents the tools to manage Internet use based on the individual needs of each user, making it easier for them to help their kids make smart choices online.”

Skydog is selling now, with an MSRP of $149. That price includes a year of the cloud service. However, PowerCloud Systems says that for a limited time, the company will add two extra years of that service to every purchase. (After that, expect to pay between $20 and $30 per year.) The company is also planning to offer a range extender for larger properties. That product is scheduled to ship sometime before the end of this year.
