Network Security Group Buys Distributor Waytek Software

The deal adds the Avast Business security portfolio to the line card of a distributor owned and operated by Temprano Techvestors, which helps eastern and southern European software vendors bring their products to North American buyers.

Network Security Group (NSG), the distribution arm of Temprano Techvestors, has acquired Waytek Software, the endpoint security distribution and value-added resale division of Cherry Hill, N.J.-based solution provider and MSP Waytek.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Waytek Software distributes the recently released family of products from Avast Business, so purchasing the company enables Temprano to add the Avast Business portfolio to a line card that already includes solutions from ESET, Sophos, Netshield, and Barracuda Networks, among others.

“Avast has one of the largest cybersecurity networks globally, with over 400 million endpoints under its management, and now, Avast Business solutions will be a core focus of our future strategy,” said Temprano Techvestors owner and NSG General Manager Luke Walling in a press statement.

Based in Newton, N.C. and launched last year, Temprano helps central and eastern European software developers promote, sell, and support their solutions in North America. Safetica, a Czech maker of data loss prevention products for SMBs, was the company’s first partner. ISL Online, a Slovenian remote access vendor, is the most recent.

Temprano acquired NSG last October to help bring products from its overseas alliance partners to market in the U.S. and Canada.

Selling its distribution business will enable Waytek to focus exclusively on its managed services practice.

“We appreciate our loyal customers, but we have decided to focus on the managed services side of our business as opposed to software distribution,” said Waytek President Brian McDonnell in prepared remarks. “NSG will provide the top-notch service and support our clients deserve resulting in a total win-win.”

Walling’s latest acquisition re-connects him in roundabout fashion with a former employer. Before forming Temprano, he served in executive roles at both security and managed services vendor AVG and Avast Software. Avast acquired AVG in July of 2016, and combined it with its own commercial security operations under the new Avast Business brand.
