Lenovo and StorMagic to Offer Hyper-Converged Software-Defined Storage for SMBs

Lenovo partners with software-defined storage company StorMagic to produce low-cost hyper-converged solutions for remote office/branch office markets.

Lenovo and StorMagic have teamed up to provide new low-cost hyper-converged solutions for remote office/branch office (ROBO) markets available through Arrow Electronics. The solutions are designed for small business and distributed enterprise customers, offering highly available, reliable virtual infrastructure for a simple bundled solution that can be tailored to specific environments.

The new hyper-converged solutions leverage Lenovo’s portfolio of enterprise servers, including the entry-level 1U ThinkServer RS140 and System x3250 M5, as well as the high performance 2U ThinkServer RD650. Added to these servers is StorMagic’s SvSAN software-defined storage platform, which enables enterprises to eliminate downtime of business critical applications through virtualized shared storage.

With a simple two-server configuration equipped with SvSAN, the solutions offer a lower cost-of-entry into shared storage in virtualized environments. The solutions boast up to a 40 percent decrease in total cost of ownership through reduced power, cooling, and maintenance costs, and a minimized need for dedicated IT resources. Customers also gain greater flexibility: both SvSAN and Lenovo’s servers are easily scalable as storage needs grow and can support multiple hypervisor platforms to streamline integration into existing infrastructure. The hyper-converged solutions also provide an intuitive, standardized management interface that allows multiple two-server shared storage bundles to be managed and provisioned quickly either locally, or remotely, from a central location.

“SMBs and organizations with multiple sites require affordable infrastructure that provides high availability in a small, durable footprint and remote management capabilities,” says Hans O’Sullivan, CEO of StorMagic. “Historically, those requirements were contradictory and difficult to realize. StorMagic’s partnership with Lenovo eliminates the need for complex SANs and drives down the cost of hyper-converged solutions that underpin an enterprise class, highly available IT infrastructure.”

The hyper-converged solutions from StorMagic and Lenovo are now available in North America†through Arrow Electronics with prices starting at $5,000.
