J2 Global Buys VIPRE Security

VIPRE’s endpoint-heavy product family complements j2’s FuseMail email security unit, says the cloud solution and digital media conglomerate says, which plans to expand the VIPRE footprint in the European Union.

VIPRE Security has been acquired by cloud computing and digital media conglomerate j2 Global Inc., of Los Angeles.

Terms of the deal, which was first reported to j2 investors in a quarterly financial briefing yesterday and confirmed by VIPRE itself in a blog post today, were not disclosed.

“Together, VIPRE and j2 create a formidable barrier against even the most sophisticated online threats—and we’re excited to see our partners and customers reap the benefits,” said Kimberly Prescott, VIPRE’s director of worldwide e-commerce, in the blog post.

Headquartered in Clearwater, Fla., VIPRE makes endpoint, email, and network security products, and offers threat intelligence services. It now joins eFax, SugarSync, and SaaS distributor Excel Micro in j2’s portfolio of cloud-related businesses.

j2 also owns FuseMail, a provider of email security, archiving, and hosting services. “Vipre complements the security suite of services of FuseMail,” says an investor’s presentation posted by j2 yesterday.

The presentation also references plans to expand VIPRE’s footprint in the European Union going forward. j2 does business globally, and generated over $1.1 billion in worldwide revenues during 2017. Its digital media properties include PC Magazine, Mashable, and Ziff Davis B2B.

According to Prescott’s blog post, j2’s financial muscle will enable VIPRE to create more cloud-based security products more quickly.

“VIPRE will now be able to leverage the global power of j2’s resources to accelerate our product and service development on the cloud platform, so we can further drive the cutting edge of security technology,” Prescott wrote.

VIPRE customers will enjoy access to other solutions in the j2 family, added Prescott, who emphasized that the change of ownership will not compromise product quality.

“We’ve always provided an intuitive user experience that’s praised by analysts and customers alike,” she stated. “And now, with our cloud-based solution and mobile-optimized interface, we’re outpacing competitors in ease of management and anytime/anywhere access. We don’t expect any of these facts to change!”

VIPRE launched a cloud-based version of its endpoint protection solution last November. Equipped with behavior-based machine learning analytics functionality, that system also features a point-and-tap interface optimized for maximum usability, especially on mobile devices. The intuitive front end is designed to help technicians respond to threats faster and more effectively, from any location and at any time of day.

VIPRE won a silver medal for best endpoint security solution in ChannelPro‘s 2017 Reader’s Choice Awards.
