Eaton Builds Controlled Nutanix Shutdown Functionality into Intelligent Power Manager

Integration with the Nutanix Acropolis platform in the latest Intelligent Power Manager release arms technicians to maintain data integrity during power interruptions by gracefully and remotely turning off Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure.

The power quality division of Eaton Corp. has shipped an updated edition of its Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) solution featuring built-in integration with the Acropolis hyperconverged infrastructure platform from Nutanix, of San Jose, Calif.

Thanks to the added functionality, technicians using the new version 1.6 of IPM can preserve data integrity during power interruptions by gracefully and remotely shutting down Nutanix deployments.

“IT and data center professionals increasingly look to hyperconverged infrastructure as an opportunity to lower costs and consolidate IT resources,” said Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager of distributed power solutions at Raleigh, N.C.-based Eaton, in a press statement. “Nutanix has emerged as an innovator in providing hyperconverged solutions and Acropolis has become a leading platform for professionals looking to reduce complexity in managing their deployments. By integrating our IPM software with Acropolis, users gain enhanced control of power infrastructure for Nutanix deployments while protecting essential data from unplanned incidents.”

Previous versions of IPM already provided similar remote shutdown capabilities for VMware’s vSAN hyperconverged infrastructure software and Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualization platform.

IPM is the oldest member of an expanding family of management solutions from Eaton, which is in the midst of a strategic effort to expand beyond its long-time focus on UPS and PDU hardware into software and services as well. The company released its first data center infrastructure management solution last November and the first edition of Visual Power Manager, an RMM-like solution for managing UPS and PDU products from Eaton and other vendors, late in 2016.
