Websense Unveils Triton Architecture

Unified security architecture combines Websense security solutions using the company’s own TruContent intelligence and TruHybrid technologies for Web content analysis and malware protection.

Websense Inc., content security provider, has introduced its new† unified security architecture. The architecture combines Websense Web, data and e-mail security technologies into a single platform for unified content analysis and management.

According to Websense, the Triton architecture integrates “the real-time Web content analysis and malware protection of the Websense Web Security Gateway” with the Websense Data Security Suite and Websense E-mail Security to protect against blended threats and targeted attacks.

Program director of security products at IDC Research Brian Burke says the Web has become the preferred platform for cybercriminals. “To be effective against today’s modern threats,” he says, “Web security technologies must have robust data loss prevention and be capable of maintaining compliance and control by analyzing inbound and outbound Web traffic in real-time, and must also provide a unified platform for on-premise and SaaS solutions so security policies can be applied and enforced equally across even dispersed enterprises.”

To meet these needs, Websense says it developed Triton as one of the first security architectures to integrate enterprise-class data loss prevention (DLP) technology into Web security gateway and e-mail security solutions, delivering TruContent intelligence.

The company’s TruContent intelligence provides “real-time analysis and classification of inbound and outbound content for protection from inbound threats,” the company states in a recent press release to EH Publishing. “Today’s emerging threats and targeted attacks evade traditional antivirus and security solutions,” the company states, “demonstrating the need for unified Web, data, and e-mail security.”

In addition, Triton employs TruHybrid, which is the company’s policy management and reporting infrastructure that unifies across on-premise, security-as-a-service (SaaS), and hybrid deployment models. Triton’s TruHybrid infrastructure enables organizations to set persistent security policies across geographically dispersed offices and remote workers, and manage those policies from a single management console for both their on-premise and SaaS data, Web, e-mail security solutions.†

By delivering TruContent intelligence and TruHybrid, Triton consolidates organization’s security solutions, which lowers the total cost of ownership for SMBs. Organizations can deploy on-premise software or an appliance at the headquarters and larger offices, and cover remote locations with SaaS security,

“We have been pursuing this unified content security strategy with relentless focus since early 2007,” says Websense president John McCormack. His company did so, he says, “by developing, acquiring, and integrating our Web, e-mail, and data security technologies and expanding our ThreatSeeker content analysis and threat detection capabilities.”

McCormack is quick to point out the hybrid model was not developed merely as a way of providing SaaS versions of the company’s security products. “We [wanted to] pave the way to the future of enterprise security by combining the power of on-premise, real-time content security with the ease of management and lower total cost of ownership provided by SaaS solutions.”

The Websense Triton solution is currently available to qualified organizations as part of an early adopter program. It is planned to reach full general availability for upgrade and purchase in April of this year.
